Privacy

HowShorted has no accounts, no newsletters and no forms. We do not collect, store or sell personal information.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-preserving measurement tool that does not use cookies, does not fingerprint devices and does not track you across sites. It shows us aggregate page views and performance data only.

On-device storage

The company search box remembers the last five companies you visited from it, so it can offer them as shortcuts. That list lives only in your browser's local storage on your device. It is never transmitted to us or anyone else, and clearing your browser's site data removes it.

Searches that find nothing

When the search box finds no company or fund for what you typed, the site sends us that text (up to 40 characters, and nothing else) so we can see which companies people look for and cannot find. Searches that do find a result are never sent. The text is not tied to a cookie, an account or any identifier we create. It is written to our hosting provider's short-lived request logs, which are deleted after about seven days and which also hold the ordinary technical details of that request. We read them only as a list of missed searches. Please do not type personal information into the search box.

Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard connection logs (IP address, user agent) to deliver and secure the service, per Cloudflare's privacy policy. We do not receive or retain those connection logs. The exceptions are the two things on this site that run as a small program of ours rather than as a plain file, the missed-search counter above and the embeddable badges: their short-lived request logs (about seven days) are visible to us.

Advertising

If advertising is introduced, it will be clearly distinguishable from data, will never appear inside data tables or on the methodology page, and any consent requirements will be handled through a certified consent management platform before any advertising cookies are set. This policy will be updated first.
