US short interest is reported for settlement on the 15th and the last business day of each month, and FINRA publishes the consolidated figures about nine business days later. That cadence is set by regulation; no daily official figure exists.

"Short float" divides the same FINRA short count by the public float, which excludes closely held shares, so it comes out higher for the same company.
