Short squeeze

A rapid price rise that pressures short sellers to buy back shares, which can push the price higher still.

When a heavily shorted stock rises sharply, short sellers facing losses (or margin calls) may buy shares to close their positions, adding buying pressure. The word describes a price event, and disclosure data shows positioning, not prices: a high or rising short interest is not a squeeze, and this site's data cannot identify one on its own.
