What is the Reportable Shares List?
The Reportable Shares List (RSL) is the FCA's official list of the share classes in scope for UK net short position reporting. If a share is on the list, positions in it must be notified to the FCA and feed the daily aggregate net short position publication; if it is not, no UK short-position disclosure applies to it at all. The list currently holds 1,390 share classes (as of 10 Jul 2026).
How it works
- Who maintains it: the FCA, under the UK's post-2026 short-selling framework. It replaced the EU-inherited scope rules that depended on where a share's main trading venue was.
- How often it changes: the FCA updates the list monthly, on the first working day. New admissions to UK venues join it; delistings and corporate actions drop off it.
- Why it matters for the data: a company can only ever appear in our UK league table if its shares are on the RSL. A company leaving the list stops being reportable; its short data ends, whatever positions existed.
How we use it
We capture the list with each monthly update and track removals on the new & leaving page, because a disappearance from the league can mean two very different things: positions genuinely closed, or the share simply left the reportable universe. Conflating those would misread the data, so we keep them distinct.
